Waymark Quality

I have noticed there is backing and forthing about quality on waymarking. It may not be expressed all the time but it is there. I don't think it is entirely a bad thing. I do like seeing well done waymarks. I like doing well done waymarks. the problem is is that we don't always do the work to do better waymarks and that includes me. The other problem is and please don't take this as harsh but some of the requirements that are posted for waymarks are not clear enough or need to be updated due to the fact there were some problems with the original write that could not necessarily be seen when starting the category. There has been a learning curve with waymarking. I don't think the learning curve is done yet. I do think that the quality and quantity on the waymarking site is going up. There are going to be times when disagreement comes up. Hopefully it can be done without much fuss.

My dada had an old washer and dryer set that no longer worked. He decided to make the metal cabinet of it into a tool chest.

Did I ever say...

Did I ever say how sick I am of winter? It came early this time and has been a harsh one to endure. I am tired of shoveling snow and being cold and not doing some of my favorite activities just because there is too much snow and cold to do them. The really sucky thing is that is not even February yet. Spring can not come too early this year and by my reckoning it is already late. The only thing going in my favor right now is that the length of day is getting longer. Even some melting and days over freezing during the day would help my mood.

For the love of God, Mr. Gore, where is that blessed global warming you were warning us of.

jackass!

Winter GPS games

I am kinda surprised that I was able to do as much as Kim and I did over the weekend with GPS games. There were a couple of caches that involved walking in too deep snow for too far that prevent us being able to do them in a fun way so we did not do them. Luckily there was a couple of benchmarks on walls we could find and not have to dig for them. There were waymarks that easily presented themselves to be posted. One cache we actually braved the cold and snow to find. It was not much to get to but it was still frozen to the ground and frozen shut. On top of it, I logged some blog waymarks when I got back so I would not even have to leave the house to claim them. I am a lazy player sometimes but sometimes the weather just does not cooperate I need to find alternate means to play.

Trip to Canada

I wen to Canada to visit my folks for my mom's birthday. I was sitting on some information in my pda and gps so I could go some gps games while on the road. I did not do so bad when you consider my first priority was to visit family. Kim and I got to find a benchmark both in Ontario as well as Michigan. We also found a multi cache in Ontario and did some waymarking.

Some of our activities were as follows so check out the links

Ne 1012

AS a side line note, I was reminded by the fact that we were waymarking in Ontario again that we did a waymark about a war memorial a few years ago (see link) that got referenced by the department of National Defense on this link. I think it is really cool when one of the things I do as a hobby gets ferenced by someone else and we get the credit. I really enjoy finding neat things and sharing the information on it and getting noticed is even nicer.

Dear Mr. Al Gore

Dear Mr. Gore,

It is in the single digits around and getting into the negative temperatures here in the Midwest. Where is the global warming you promised and said was such a bad thing? I am ready to have some. It would help with our energy independence because we would not be using so much energy just to keep warm. It would also help with the economy because the money we are not spending on energy could go to other parts as part of an ecomonmic stimulus package. Please, say something so we can release some greeenhouse gases so we can help America through this crisis of extreme cold.

Thanks,

A concerned citizen

Lazy Snow Shoveling

I guess i can't complain about the snow too much. I finally got around to shoveling the driveway. I am definitely getting lazy about it. The driveway is not so much been shoveled clean as I took care of the pile of snow at the end of the drive left by the road crews. The snow is still low enough that I am just going to stomp the rest of it down when I go in and out of the driveway with the car. Tghat's heresy to some folks nad lazy to others but I really don't care this year. Let's face it. I never liked shoveling snow as a kid and I don't now. I would like snow a lot better if I could go back to having snow days so I could play in the snow when things got to bad. I sorta got to do that this weekend when it snowed the whole time. I am looking forward to the January thaw if we have not had it already and I am really looking forward to spring. It's only a couple of weeks to Groundhogs Day/ Candlemas and the steady if not straight march toward warmer weather.

Holiday Waymarking Part II

This is a conminuation of a previous post.

First of all, let me get the juvenile humor out of my sytem. In our wanderings, I noticed the above license plate that uses numbers and letters to spell boobies. I laughed so hard that people were starring but I fully admit I can be immature on what makes me laugh sometimes.

The next picture is a lighthouse that we visited as a light house and mentined in a previous post. I also was able to post it a waymark under the categorty of National Historic Registry. See it here.

The last picture is at the Old Mission Home Virtual cache. The link for it here. I enjoyed seeing the history of the spot. That wraps up the tourist part of the trip and ends this post for the day.

Holiday Waymarking

I got to do some waymarking over the Christmas holidays. The top picture is of a World War I & II memorial. It is a neat stone monument that we got to list. The next picture is a lighthouse whose waymark we visited. I am really starting to enjoy the lighthouse category. Maybe it is because I grew up on the shores of Lake erie. The final pictuer is a Michigan Historical marker. All of these were in the Old Mission Township Park. Nice little park in a very scenic spot. We were also able to do a Lutheran Church Waymark but it is not pictured.

The waymarks we did are linked below.

New Year's Resolution

The one resolution I want to talk about is not a new one for me but one I need to continue on with. That resolution is donating blood. Yesterday was my first donation of the year and first step of keeping this going in the new year. I would like to encourage you again to give this way as you can. You have never donated blood, then go out and try. If you have donated before then go out and make it a habit.
