Geocaching and Land Managers

This is not going to be a popular topic for a lot of people. Either they are not interested in geocaching or they hate getting regulated on anything. There has been a permitting policy by the IDNR when it comes to placing geocaches on the state land they maintain. It is mainly just some paperwork to make sure they know where they are and so they are not in an ecologically sensitive area. I hate being regulated but as regulations go it is not a bad one. One of the reasons it is there is so when they have a planned burn, the cache does not get burnt up as well. They did some burns this spring and one of friends caches still got fried up. We helped replace it. The toy soldiers were fused together like an apocalyptic horror show. I guess more work is needed for police the caches when things are burned. Pokagon has gotten really friendly towards geocaching which is good but there is still room for improvement for IDNR/geocacher relations from both sides. Meanwhile, I will just try my best to do the right things and hopefully it will make things better. Some people will never be satisfied.

Vicarage Service

The Vicarage Placement was tonight and I was not able to make it. I really hate not having good enough night vision to drive myself at night and not being to get a ride down and back. I was still able to salvage some of it by listening to the webcast of the service. That is such a great technology. It is weird how I am fairly familiar with the web and yet have not taken advantage of webcasts more. Not really a surprise though. I have just recently been doing an increase of mp3 downloads. Thre are just so many options and resources on the internet and not all of them are worth the time and effort but the mining and looking for the good stuff is highly worth it.

A Day In The Life

It's been a busy day. Started off with taking Kai to the vet, and did some caching. Met up with BGF and gabbed about caching with him. I could not believe we got two first to finds today but then again it is Friday. I bet good money someone else will find those two by the end of the weekend if not tonight after people get off work. It is not like we are first to find hounds but we will take them as they come. We also got the shopping done in and among everything else. Tonight is D&D and Komets Hockey. An all around good day.

Starships

TV Spacecraft

Score: 100% (12 out of 12)

The only ship I had problem with was the one from Red Dwarf. I have not seen that one in ages.

Benchmark

Yup! Found another benchmark. Don't know why I like finding them but the sme can be said about caching or waymarking. The weather was nice and it gave me a place to walk to. I really enjoy when the gps games give me an opportunity to go walking or biking instead of having to use the care for them all. Reminds me, there are a few waymarks around Garrett, that still need doing.

Shifting Tastes in Playing with my GPSr

I have been involved in pastimes that deal with GPSr's for over 5 years now. Don't take this as bragging- i am kinda surprised I have stayed with it this long. I think I would have lost interest after a year of two. I think a part of it is the fact that I have gone from just geocaching to hunting benchmarks and doing waymarking. Geocaching has changed: I have changed. If I still did just geocaching, I don't know if i would still be involved. It does not have the initial appeal anymore. Not a criticism, just the normal cycle of being interested in anything. There is an excitement in doing something new that goes away over time. It's kinda weird to see the differnce in how our stats are going. (NOt that they are that important). I guess this is just a day where I feel a little long in tooth for being a cacher so long. Just bein weird.

Personnal Finiance Blogs

found out about a site about personal finance blogs. It is linked here. I heard about it from the no crdeit needed podcast. It can be found here. So far the podcast have potential and the blogs look like they are worth looking into. I won't necessarily listen or believe all they say but their might be some gems in there.

Gone Caching

Went caching again this weekend. The IDNR has started a Sprint Geocaching quest and are generally well done. Also managed to do some waymarking and benchmark hunting along the way. The most delicious waymark we did was the New Bethel Ordinary. It a restaurant / lounge that serves up just the most heavenly pizza. It is a city called Wannamaker which is inside Indianapolis. I was happy to see the waymark approved for this so fast.

Heating bills

This time of year sucks a bit when it comes to the heating bill. It is spring and getting warm but you are still paying for a month ago when it still was cold and miserable. The one nice thing is we got a new clothes washer and and the savings on water is quickly paying for itself especially with water savings. It has halved our water bill. I would like to find a way to do the same with our heating. The cost of energy is getting obscene. I don't care if it is natural gas, electric or petrol, it is too damn expensive. We have really cut back on how much we drive and how much we cache because of it.
